# Crowley Container Tracking

Crowley is the carrier to know for Puerto Rico, Central America and the Caribbean: a Jones Act operator whose liner network radiates from the US Southeast rather than chasing the global east–west trades. Tracking runs through its cSight portal at csight.crowley.com, which accepts container or bill-of-lading numbers; CMCU is the prefix on Crowley’s own boxes. There is no official tracking app; the “Crowley Marine” app in stores belongs to an unrelated boat-parts retailer. On the flagship San Juan lane, cargo sails on the LNG-powered ConRo ships El Coquí and Taíno.

## Track a Crowley container by number

A company founded on a rowboat service in 1892 San Francisco harbor now anchors the supply chain of an island of three million — Puerto Rico gets a large share of its consumer goods on Crowley strings out of Jacksonville, where the company is headquartered today.

Regional focus keeps the tracking simple: one prefix, one portal, short voyages. Confirm the CMCU digit math below and cSight does the rest.

Crowley containers carry the prefix CMCU; its check digit worked through and the code’s history are on the prefix page of [Crowley](https://contsize.com/crowley-container-prefixes/).

## CMCU: the Crowley container prefix

Crowley registers **CMCU** as its owner code in the BIC register. No Crowley document we read names its [SCAC](https://contsize.com/glossary/scac/) or says its documents begin with CMCU, so treat CMCU as a container code only. Trailers and other equipment in Crowley’s ConRo system carry separate marks, but containerized cargo means CMCU.

## Crowley bills of lading

Enter a [bill of lading](https://contsize.com/glossary/bill-of-lading/) number in cSight exactly as your paperwork prints it, without adding CMCU to it. On ConRo services a single bill often covers mixed freight — a container plus a vehicle, say — and the document-level search is the view that keeps them together.

## Using the cSight portal

csight.crowley.com is a Salesforce-based customer portal whose public shipment-tracking page needs no login for basic status. Deep links are not supported, and Crowley publishes no tracking app for phones — the portal is responsive enough to serve that role. Ignore App Store results: the similarly named app is another company entirely.

Crowley publishes no mobile tracking app. Anything in an app store offering to track its containers belongs to a third party, not to the line.

## Can you see where the ship is?

Not from the container. A standard dry box has no power, no radio and no satellite receiver — it is a steel case with a number painted on it, and it reports nothing about itself. Every position you see against a Crowley shipment was reported by something else: a terminal crane, a gate reader, or the ship.

A live map on a carrier’s tracking page is almost always plotting [AIS](https://contsize.com/glossary/ais/), the transponder every large vessel broadcasts with its position, course and speed. That is genuinely useful at sea: it is a real position rather than a schedule, and an ETA recalculated from actual movement. It is also the ship’s position, not your box’s, and the two part company the moment the container is discharged.

On land the map goes quiet. Between the [gate-out](https://contsize.com/glossary/gate-out/) and the delivery there is no vessel to follow, and the road leg appears only as whatever events the terminal and the trucker report. A container sitting on a chassis in a yard shows the last position of a ship it left days ago. Only specialised IoT equipment reports its own location, and wherever that exists it is a paid product sold to the shipper, not something a tracking page gives away.

## Crowley transit times, as published

How long a container spends at sea on Crowley services, port to port. Each figure below is stated by two documents for the same service and the same pair of ports — the line’s own schedule and one more — and both are linked beside it. Where we could not find two, the pair is not listed.

*Crowley: published port-to-port transit times*

These are schedule figures between two ports, not delivery times: add the days before the vessel sails and after it discharges, and expect the real voyage to drift by a few days either way. A line can change a rotation at any time, so check the date on each source.

## On a ConRo service your bill of lading may not be about a container

Crowley runs ConRo ships — part container, part roll-on roll-off — on its Caribbean and Central American trades, so a single bill of lading routinely covers mixed freight: a container and a vehicle, or a container and a piece of rolling equipment that has no container number at all.

That decides which search to run. A container number answers for one box; the document-level search is the view that keeps the whole consignment together, and it is the only one that will show you the parts of the shipment that are not in a box. If a container search returns less than you expected, it is probably answering correctly about a smaller question than the one you are asking.

## When the cSight portal returns nothing

**Container or document?** A container number is CMCU, six digits and a check digit, eleven characters in all; anything else on your paperwork is a document number. The portal takes both in one lookup, which is convenient until a typo moves you silently from one to the other.

**Basic status needs no login.** cSight is a Salesforce portal and it will offer you an account; the public shipment-tracking page answers without one. If you are being asked to sign in, you have navigated past the page you wanted.

**There is no Crowley app.** Crowley is one of three carriers here that publish none. The similarly named app in the stores belongs to a different company — the responsive portal is the intended phone experience.

**Too new, or archived.** Events begin at [gate-in](https://contsize.com/glossary/gate-in/) or loading rather than at booking, and finished shipments drop out of the live system after some weeks.

Thomas Crowley’s 1892 Whitehall-boat business grew into a family-held group spanning liner shipping, logistics, government services and energy — still independent, 52nd on Alphaliner’s list as read on 18 October 2026, and running LNG-powered ConRos years before most of the industry ordered its first.

## Frequently asked questions

**Is the “Crowley Marine” app the carrier’s tracking app?**

No — that app belongs to an unrelated boat-parts and outboard-motor retailer that happens to share the name. Crowley the shipping line offers no dedicated tracking app; use csight.crowley.com in any browser.

**What are El Coquí and Taíno?**

Crowley’s LNG-powered ConRo ships — combination container and roll-on/roll-off vessels — purpose-built for the Jacksonville–San Juan lane. If you ship containers or vehicles to Puerto Rico with Crowley, odds are they ride one of these two.

**Where does Crowley actually sail?**

Puerto Rico and the Caribbean, plus Central America — Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Costa Rica and neighbors — out of US Gulf and Southeast ports. No transpacific or Asia–Europe loops; for those trades your cargo moves with a different line.

**Where does Crowley rank by container capacity?**

52nd on Alphaliner’s list as read on 18 October 2026, at about 19,000 TEU — a reflection of a regional ConRo network, not of company size, since the wider Crowley group is substantial.

**Does the Jones Act apply to Crowley’s Puerto Rico service?**

Yes — San Juan is a domestic US trade, so it runs on US-built, US-flagged, US-crewed vessels. Central America and Caribbean international routes carry no such restriction.

**Can csight.crowley.com track a shipment without an account?**

Basic milestone tracking by container or B/L number is public. An account unlocks documents, invoices and notifications — worth it for regular shippers, unnecessary for a one-off status check.
